Sports Law: The Latest Transfers


Welcome to the unofficial Chris Farnell sports law blog. Here we will cover the latest news from the world of football. Chris Farnell is a sports lawyer from law firm IPS Law. Here are some recent transfers, and potential transfers, from the Premier League to keep an eye on this summer. 




Charlton Athletic's Jayden Stockley this summer has been linked with Sheffield Wednesday recently, but owner Thomas Sandgaard is not agreeing to a player transfer. Crystal Palace's Ben Garner, has been appointed Charlton FC's new coach earlier this week, it was announced. Ben has nearly 90 matches at the top level and the experience to do the job. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for the club.

Up the league, Liverpool FC's star player Salah, has likened his home to a hospital due to all of the fitness machines he keeps, in a recent interview in French media. One of the best in the game, he won Player of the Year recently, and is clearly a heavy hitter. He has taken his game to a different level since joining from AS Roma in 2017. Though the Egyptian has been tipped with a move away from them this summer with his contract up in 12 months, there's still hope that the former Chelsea winger will extend his stay on at the club next season.

Liverpool also have their eye on Pablo Martin Paez Gaviria of FC Barcelona and are said to be willing to spend over £42 million for him. Gavi is only 17, and clearly has a great future ahead of him. World Cup pitch invader won't face legal action - but will be kicked out of Qatar Welcome back to the Chris Farnell football news blog. Mario Ferri, 35, ran onto the pitch during the Group H game between Portugal and Uruguay at the Lusail Stadium on Monday.  A protester who ran onto the pitch during Portugal's match against Uruguay will not face any further legal action - but is being removed from Qatar. Mario Ferri was seen sprinting onto the grass at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Monday waving a rainbow flag and wearing a T-shirt that read "Save Ukraine" on the front and "Respect for Iranian women" on the back. The 35-year-old was quickly chased and detained by security officials.  On Tuesday, Mr Ferri, who describes himself as a footballer and influencer, told his Instagram followers he had been released by the Qatari authorities.  World football's lawmakers announce changes to the offside law Welcome to the Chris Farnell football news and sports law news blog. World football’s lawmakers will discuss changes to the offside law at their annual meeting in March 2022. It has been a matter of contention. Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, FIFA’s chief of global football development, has proposed an attacker be ruled onside if any part of his body was level with the second-to-last defender.  The International Football Association Board’s annual general meeting will take place virtually on March 3 and also hear an update on the use of semi-automated offside technology.
