In football, the Roman Abramovich era looks like it's coming to an end with the takeover of Chelsea FC approved and the American sports club the Dodger's co-owner taking over, with Clearstake Capital, an American firm, holding the majority of the shares.


Recently the UK government approved the £4.25bn Todd Boehly-led consortium takeover of Chelsea. Under Roman they won 27 trophies and have been dominating the league. However,  Abramovich - who has had his UK assets frozen - will not benefit from the sale of the football club.


 Abramovich put the football club, which he purchased in 2003, up for sale a week after Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine on February 24. Abramovich's 13 year reign has come to an end, and restrictions on him affecting the club, like buying and selling players, will be lifted. We hope Chelsea's success will continue under new ownership and are glad that the club will no longer have to deal with sanctions because of the nationality of it's owner.

World Cup pitch invader won't face legal action - but will be kicked out of Qatar Welcome back to the Chris Farnell football news blog. Mario Ferri, 35, ran onto the pitch during the Group H game between Portugal and Uruguay at the Lusail Stadium on Monday.  A protester who ran onto the pitch during Portugal's match against Uruguay will not face any further legal action - but is being removed from Qatar. Mario Ferri was seen sprinting onto the grass at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar on Monday waving a rainbow flag and wearing a T-shirt that read "Save Ukraine" on the front and "Respect for Iranian women" on the back. The 35-year-old was quickly chased and detained by security officials.  On Tuesday, Mr Ferri, who describes himself as a footballer and influencer, told his Instagram followers he had been released by the Qatari authorities. World football’s lawmakers will discuss changes to the offside law at their annual meeting in March 2022. It has been a matter of contention.
